Here we go again... more Modern Warfare on the horizon

The COD faithful are starting to get excited, as a new website comes out with a mysterious countdown.
Activision has sent out dog tags with the link, and the name of a character from the franchise.

Could this be a new Modern Warfare title? Or a sick joke? We'll know soon.

UPDATE: Turns out it was a hoax. Activision denies having anything to with the website.

Is Apple over-aggressive?

It is speculated that next week Apple will announce/unveil its iPad 2, but considering the fact that they just released the iPad last year, is pumping out a new iteration a year later a good idea?

What's been rumored about the iPad 2 is that will be more like an iTouch than the first one, it will have forward and back cameras, with more rounded curves and will be thinner than the first. It is also expected to have an A5 processor and higher resolutions, making it the HD iPad. Early birds that have looked at Apple's past product pricing say it will most likely be sold for $499.99 and $629.99 for 3G models. For more about the rumored iPad 2, go here http://tinyurl.com/iPad-rumors-and-info

The positive here is how fast technology is evolving, the negative is that people who bought the first iPad might not be so happy to see Apple already dishing out a new and improved version. This also means yet another Apple product to put on your holiday list. Parents of teenagers may as well start crying now, because the iPod, iTouch or iPhone you bought your kids this past Christmas may soon be forgotten about!

At any rate, if the rumors are correct, I think if you already own an iPad, it's not worth upgrading to something that's not much improved, but for the person shopping for their first tablet-like gadget, the iPad 2 is worth waiting for. I look forward to seeing the sales once this thing comes out, and see how it fares against the competition. If you have any news or thoughts regarding this subject I encourage you to leave a comment.

SteelSeries 5XB FTW

One question a gamer always faces is: What headset should I buy? The most well known (and most pricey) headset out there is probably the Astro A40's, with their superior audio and noise canceling (not to mention amazing Mixamp), this headset quickly became a favorite among people at MLG.

But as with the USAF's F-22 Raptor, it simply costs too much for most people to get their hands on.

Most people just use their TV speakers for video game audio, but those who wish to play at an optimal level should invest in a gaming headset. When you go to most stores looking for your ideal model, you'll most likely see Turtle Beaches and Tritton's.

<span class=
Turtle Beach's Ear Force X11 is the cheapest of these headsets but for good reason -- the mic picks up EVERYTHING! If you play online, chances are your friends will complain about hearing your mom talk to you from across your house and if you have a dog that barks a lot, the problem is even worse. Not to mention, the poor audio quality!

<span class=
Tritton's AX720 is better, but at a price. Not only does it cost way more, but most gamers complain that it's uncomfortable. On a side note, they look pretty sweet.

But after these headsets leave you disappointed and wondering why anybody would ever buy them, it turns out there's another option! Enter the new SteelSeries 5XB. I personally own the A40 headset, but when I first heard about the 5XB's I was stoked.
The SteelSeries 5XB is both comfortable and worth the money. It has a built in mic that slides in and out of the left headphone and an indestructible nylon wrapped cord (If you broke one, you must be Chuck Norris). The audio is great and you can also use them with MP3 players and iPods. At $80 US Dollars, this is value and quality!

It's not as good as a pair of A40's, but it does have SteelSeries' version of an Astro MixAmp, meaning you can adjust game sound and voice sound separately. In conclusion, I'd say that if I didn't already own the A40's, I'd get my butt in gear and grab a 5XB.

Halo Reach Defiant Map Pack

Well, by now you've heard about the new map pack and want to know everything there is to know about it. Well, you're in luck because here's a bombshell of information straight from Bungie.

The following information was pulled from Bungie.net.

  • Condemned: Condemned takes place aboard Orbital Station Gamma, a massive space station high in orbit above the planet Reach. Prior to the Covenant’s overwhelming invasion, Orbital Station Gamma provided long range communications for UNSC fleets and a vital lifeline between Reach and Earth. During the Battle of Reach, the station suffered terrible punishment at the hands of the Covenant but a few fortified sections remain intact, fully pressurized, and ready for combat. Condemned supports 6 – 12 players in a variety of action-packed game types, including Team Slayer, Team Objective and Free for All.
  • Highlands: Highlands takes place on the top-secret Military Wilderness Training Preserve on Reach. The Preserve is a large, wooded area where Spartan super-soldiers trained long before the war with the Covenant began. During the Battle of Reach, the Preserve was the site of key battles between the alien invaders and a group of Spartans who used their familiarity with these UNSC training grounds to significant tactical advantage…but not everyone who enters these woods makes it out alive. Highlands expands the fight with massive-scale engagements for 8 – 16 players in Big Team Battle, Team Slayer and Team Objective.
  • Unearthed: Unearthed takes the battle for Reach to a large Titanium mine and refinery located in the Viery civilian sector of the planet. This particular mine was built to take advantage of the exposed titanium inside a massive meteor crater. The titanium produced here is used in much of the UNSC hardware, from the chassis of the Warthog to the meters-thick armor plating of capital ships like the UNSC Pillar of Autumn. While this facility was quickly abandoned when the Covenant arrived on Reach, it still has significant tactical (and economic) value and it won’t be long before both humans and Covenant return to battle for control. Unearthed allows up to 4 players to launch a counterassault against the Covenant in Firefight and Firefight modes such as Generator Defense.

Created in partnership with Certain Affinity, the Defiant Map Pack will be available this March on Xbox LIVE for 800 Microsoft points, and will include all new Achievements worth a total of 150 Gamerscore.

In the midst of this, there are 5 things I think should be done to this map pack:

1. The target designator needs to be a multiplayer weapon.
2. How about making this download only cost 400MP to all who bought the Noble map pack?
3. MORE DMR'S!
4. A map that gives both teams a falcon just as it does a warthog.
5. LOTS AND LOTS of forgeable objects.

When this map pack is released be sure to come by my blog to see my review of it.
